Here is hosted a global heat map of the soteriology of the largest Christian denominations and movements.

Now, please note: these maps are not perfect. The soteriology of various denominations can be complicated.

Many times, there is nuance, and who is/isn't saved is often an inteanse debate within Christian groups. This website is based both on

my personal understanding of who each group has established to be certainly or likely saved, and those who are in an uncertain

position have been left out of the total % counts. Futher note: the soteriology of many groups is often based on specific internal

beliefs and affirmations. Obviously, the survey data upon which this is based cannot make determinations about that, and so pragmatically

relies on religious and denominational self-identification.

The Catholic Church:

Catholic Soteriology:

𖤝 The Catholic Church teaches that salvation comes through Jesus Christ alone. All who are saved are saved by Christ's grace.

𖤝 The Catholic Church possesses the fullness of the means of salvation, making it the ordinary means by which God saves

𖤝 Validly baptized non-Catholic Christians are truly Christians and are incorporated into Christ to varying degrees.

𖤝 Those with "invincible ignorance" may be saved if their ignorance is through no fault of their own (excluded).

𖤝 Those who knowingly and deliberately reject Christ or the Catholic Church place themselves in grave spiritual danger.

The Southern Baptists:

Southern Baptist Soteriology:

𖤝 Salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Jesus Christ alone (Sola Fide).

𖤝 A personal conversion ("being born again") is necessary for salvation; merely belonging to a church or being baptized does not save.

𖤝 Southern Baptists recognize the salvation of Christians cross-denomination if the have this personal conversion experience.

𖤝 However, they maintain that the teaching of many such groups are not Biblical and who is saved is not certain (thus they are excluded).

𖤝 Those who reject Christ or never come to saving faith are not saved, and those who leave the faith were never previously saved.

The Eastern Orthodox Church:

Eastern Orthodox Soteriology:

𖤝 The Eastern Orthodox Church teaches that salvation comes through Jesus Christ alone, and via his Church.

𖤝 Salvation is understood as a lifelong process of union with God (theosis): the sacraments, repentance, and cooperation with God's grace.

𖤝 The Orthodox Church is the fullness of Christ's Church and the ordinary means by which God brings people to salvation.

𖤝 The Orthodox Church does not definitively judge the eternal fate of non-Orthodox Christians, entrusting them to God's mercy (excluded).

𖤝 Catholic and Oriental Orthodox Christians, however, have special status in practice and are considered more validy Christian (included).

𖤝 Those who knowingly and persistently reject Christ and refuse repentance place themselves in grave spiritual danger.

The Assemblies of God:

Assemblies of God (Pentacostal) Soteriology:

𖤝 Salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone (Sola Fide) no works or sacrements can lead to salvation.

𖤝 A person must personally repent of sin and place their faith in Jesus Christ, experiencing the "new birth" (being born again).

𖤝 Water baptism and baptism in the Holy Spirit are important acts of obedience and spiritual empowerment, but neither saves a person.

𖤝 The AOG generally recognize as fellow Christians those from other denominations who have experienced genuine saving faith in Christ.

𖤝 Some Christian traditions proclaim a distorted gospel, making the salvation of those who trust in those teachings uncertain (excluded).

𖤝 Those who knowingly reject Christ, refuse repentance, or ultimately abandon saving faith are not or are no longer saved.

Liberal/Progressive Christianity:

Liberal & Progressive Soteriology:

𖤝 Important: Liberal/Progressive Christianity is not a denomination, but a common movement in a wide variety of denominations.

𖤝 It is particularly dominant amongst Mainline Protestants. Division exists, but Christian Univeralism of some form is widespread in this theological movment.

𖤝 The vast majority affirm that salvation is ultimately grounded in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ

𖤝 God's saving grace extends beyond the visible Church and may include people of other religions or no religion who sincerely seek truth and goodness, and by proxy, Christ.

𖤝 Ultimately, God will ultimately reconcile all people to himself, even those who rejected him in life.

𖤝 If any are condemend, their fate is left with God, His judgement, and mercy.
